Calvi is a town in the Haute-Corse department of France on the island of Corsica. it is the chief city of the Canton of Calvi, which contains besides itself one other commune, Lumio. Calvi is also the capital of the Arrondissement of Calvi, which contains, beside the Canton of Calvi, three other cantons: L’Ile-Rousse, Belgodere and Calenzana.

Calvi is located on the northwest coast of the island of Corsica, 95 km from Bastia and 24 km from Ile-Rousse. It is the fifth-largest town in Corsica, although the arrondissement is the smallest.

The fastest and best way to get to Calvi is obviously by plane. However if you would like a more scenic route into Corsica you can always fly to Italy or France and take a ferry to Bastia or Calvi.

Calvi is a real treat when it comes to festivities. Although there aren’t many known annual events, the town makes up for it with the high quality of the events. So look forward to them, especially the fireworks display in May.

Calvi, like any other Corsican town, is really something when it comes to dining out. Traditional Corsican food can be sampled in almost every restaurant, but that doesn’t mean it is the only thing on Calvi’s menus.

Because of Corsica’s strategic location, Calvi has a long and rich history. The earliest found remains of settlers in Calvi date back to the Neolithic period, in one of its many caves.

Due to the Mediterranean breeze, the beaches of Corsica are always sunny and warm. More so the beautiful sandy beaches found in Calvi, which of course are no exception, especially if you’d like nothing more than to spend a carefree afternoon in the summer sun.
